Piaggio is planning to launch a Fiber body Vespa LX 125 to lower the cost of the scooter.
Vespa LX 125 which was launched in 2012 has not seen any great success in the sales of its scooter. Priced at 68,257/- exshowroom it was 15,000/- more than the competitors.
The company announced discounts during the festive season to revice the sales but did not help much, so they cut the cost of the scooter by nearly Rs.9000/- but hasn’t seeny any spike now either. Vespa Lx 125 which has a metal monocoque body makes it quite expensive to manufature.
So the company is planning to change this by developing a fiber bodied variant of Vespa Lx125 which will help them bring down the cost of the scooter by nearly Rs 10,000/- and target it directly with Honda Activa/Dio and Suzuki Access.
We have to wait and see if the Vespa LX125, with a fiber body and lower price tag can help in increasing its sales
