Honda which is yet bring in a diesel offering in India is now going to launch CNG version of the Honda City. Honda has been seeing a drop in sales numbers of all its cars especially the Honda City now is looking to give CNG powered City in order to maintain its sales till the diesel engine arrives next year. The Honda City CNG will be priced between Rs. 8.2 to Rs. 9.6 lakhs. It will have everything similar to the regular City but Honda might offer a higher warranty period on the car.
The Honda City formarly a leader in the segment for more than a decade, now is struggling to compete against competition like Hyundai Verna and Volkswagen Vento. Main reason behind this lack of diesel engine, with steep rise in petrol prices diesel has become a favourite with buyers of C-segment cars.
The Honda City is powered by a 1.5-litre, SOHC, i-VTEC petrol engine and produces a 118 PS of power and 146 Nm of torque. Honda offers both manual and automatic transmission on the City, with the latter having steering mounted paddle shifts. The mileage of the manual City is 16.5 km/l, while the automatic variant returns 15.6 km/l (under standard conditions). The CNG is only second alternative to diesel that will reduce running costs significantly, making the vehicle appeal to a larger section of buyers.
