Fiat is all set to enter the compact SUV segment and revealed the 500X, Fiat’s first crossover vehicle at a recent press conference in Turin, Italy. The Fiat 500X will be the fifth model in the Fiat’s 500 range with 500 three-door hatchback, the 500C convertible, the Abarth-branded performance versions, and the most recent 500L five-door minivan.
The Fiat 500X will be powered by Fiat’s 0.9-litre two-cylinder turbocharged TwinAir petrol engine, and a 1.3-litre Multijet turbo diesel that will be offered in both front-wheel- and all-wheel-drive options. The Fiat 500X is believed to be around 4.2 metres in length which in India will not get the benefit of the less excise duty and hence expect the price to be higher in comparison to it competitors.
The Fiat 500X will be manufactured at the Italian company’s Mirafiori plant with production expected to start next year. The Fiat 500X’s Indian launch is still not revealed by the company as they have only unveiled the vehicle worldwide recently.
The compact SUV segment is one of the hottest segment in the developing automobile sector since automakers position the crossover vehicles below the premium hatchbacks and the sedans and above the SUV segment. This positioning gives the customers a combination every segment in the compact SUV vehicle such as in terms of luxury of a premium hatchback, space of a sedan and the SUV stance and ruggedness that makes this segment a very strong one.
The Fiat 500X will be a champion vehicle for Fiat if the launch it in India with the slow pace in the sales of its other cars in the line-up and most importantly only if its competitively priced.
