MotorVikatan has disclosed clear images of the star SUV that sparked a whole new segment, the EcoSport caught doing testing rounds in Chennai without camouflage. Looking at the pictures, it is very clear that the EcoSport is production ready and the best part is that Ford has not taken off any cues that was seen on the prototype when it was showcased in the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo.
The EcoSport is a signature vehicle for Ford in India that has sparked an all new segment called compact SUV that will be priced in equivalent to a C-segment sedan. Most Indians would want to own a SUV for its overall comfort coupled with road presence and a SUV at the price of a sedan makes the segment all the more tempting for prospective car buyers that makes Indian market very promising for Ford in terms of sales figures and Ford will definitely not want to take any chances before its launch.
Although the EcoSport may look like a production ready vehicle, Ford might do a similar testing strategy like the company did with the Fiesta that was tested for more than 10-lakh kilometre for more than a year all over India. Ford is making sure that they don’t go wrong in any of the departments before the EcoSport rolls out in the Indian market.
However in the meantime before its launch, Renault is ready with its compact SUV named Duster with its launch scheduled for July 4,2012 in contrary to Ford’s launch in early 2013. The Renault Duster makes its all the more difficult for Ford India that is adding more pressure to make things more faster before Duster gets all the limelight.
