German luxury car manufacturer, Audi launched its compact luxury SUV Audi Q3 in India on Wednesday that will directly rival head on against the BMW X1 at a very competitive price of Rs.26.21 lakhs** for the base variant and Rs.31.49 lakhs**for the top end.
The Audi Q3 is powered by 2.0-litre diesel motor that produces 174bhp and 38.7kgm torque. The Q3 measures 4.4 metres in length which makes it almost 250mm shorter than the Q5. The Q3 will be available as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) and CKD-assembly will start later at Audi’s Aurangabad facility. The interior is the Q3 is similar to that of its eldest Q-series sibling, the Q7.
The cabin gets dual tone interiors, wood trims, closely detailed plastic nick-nacks, a simple multimedia information screen that slides out of the dashboard unlike the fully fledged system in its older Q-series siblings.
The Audi Q3 will be available in two variants viz base variant and top end variant. The base variant comes with 16-inch 7-spoke alloy wheels, halogen headlamps, manual A/C controls, rear parking sensors and cruise control whereas the top-end variant is priced at Rs 31.49 lakh, it is equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, LED tail lamps and xenon headlamps, automatic climate control and a panoramic glass-sunroof.
The competition in the entry level luxury SUV segment is heating up, thanks to the demand for Toyota Fortuner that made other automakers realise that this segment has a good prospect. Sadly, inspite of the tremendous demand in this segment, Audi India will be able to take in only 500 bookings due to production constraints at the European plant.
Michael Perschke, head, Audi India said “The launch of the Audi Q3 is in line with our top-down strategy for India. The Q3 is immediately recognizable as the youngest member of the Audi Q family. Now we are starting the next chapter of our success story: As a true luxury SUV, the Audi Q3 leads the way for the Four Rings to enter a new segment in India, with ever increasing customer groups demanding for luxury mobility in a compact form”.
He also stated, “Every aspect of the Q3 showcases Audi technology – the body, the drive train, the chassis and the assistance and multimedia systems. Many of these elements come directly from the luxury class. At present, only 500 Audi Q3′s will be available for initial booking. We are confident that Audi Q3 will repeat the success of Audi Q5 and Audi Q7 and further consolidate our leadership position in the luxury SUV segment”
