The compact SUV Renault Duster was originally planned to be launched in June, now Renault has decided to postpone it to October due to festive season around the time. In India, we frequently see automakers deciding to do big launches around October as the festive mood has always has proven to fuel the sales. It is unknown so far will both Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster will be launching around the same time, and who will hog the first mover advantage.
The Renault Duster is powered by the 1.5-litre K9K dCi diesel engine which produces 108 PS of power and the 1.5-litre petrol engine which produces 97 BHP of peak power at 6000 RPM and 134 Nm of peak torque at 4000 RPM. Both these engines are doing duty in Nissan Sunny currently. Due to rising petrol costs expect the diesel to be more popular choice. Renault has not yet managed to get good sales figures with its current offerings, and Renault seems to be betting big on the compact SUV Renault Duster.
Currently Renault has less than 50 dealerships across India. Renault may have decided to delay the launch to give it couple of months to expand this network. In order to compete with Ford and potentially high demand for the compact SUV this would be absolutely necessary.
