Mitsubishi Pajero Sport was launched by Hindustan Motors at Rs.23.5 lakhs (ex-showroom,Delhi). Mitsubishi recently slashed the price of the sports sedan Cedia by Rs.1.99 lakhs that’s now available at Rs.7.99 lakhs, and with the launch of Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. it is very clear that Mitsubishi is not giving up in the Indian market that had almost forgotten the existence of the auto maker.
The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is 4695mm long, 1815mm wide and 1840mm high that positions itself in between to the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour in terms of bulk. On the front ,the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport gets projector headlamps, chrome grille and a huge Mitsubishi logo . The side profile of Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is like a typical SUV with muscle lines and a high the ground clearance. At the rear is the three quarter angle that is one of the best design cues in the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, slim tail lamps , chrome and running roof rails.
The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is powered by a 2.5-litre 16-valve inter-cooled turbocharged diesel engine that produces 175bhp and 40.4kgm of torque that is mated with Mitsubishi’s rally-proven shift-on-the-fly Super Select 4WD that gets a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport features driver and passenger airbags, ABS with EBD, leather-wrapped gear knob, a USB-enabled music player and a multi-information display, steering controls and rear parking sensors.
The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport currently will be available as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) and a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) assembly will commence later this year. CKD-assembled versions of Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will be sold at a reduced price. Mitsubishi also revealed that the current Pajero will be phased out soon to make way for the new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
Pricing in the Indian market decides any car’s success and with the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport priced at Rs.23.5 Lakhs where as the competitors such as the Endeavour that is priced at a range that starts from Rs 17.32 lakh and the Fortuner price starts from Rs 19.99 lakh which is priced Rs 3.5 lakhs more than the current segment leader, the Fortuner.
The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport though will justify its price in terms of goodies it has to offer and the engineering technology it boasts of, but the question is will it be able to convince the Indian customers because 90% of the SUV buyers here in our country are not looking for off-road Dakar rally champion SUVs.
