Mahindra XUV 500 is a SUV thats built on a monocoque frame thats a first of its kind from Mahindra & Mahindra. The styling is basically inspired by the fastest animal,the cheetah, giving a clear message that it’s ready to pounce.
Mahindra’s first in a series of next-generation global SUVs, with significant inputs in styling and development from customers across the globe is designed and developed entirely in-house by Mahindra, at the world class research and development facility, Mahindra Research Valley, Chennai.
The Mahindra XUV 500 is by the 2.2 litre mHawk140 engine delivers a decent power of 140bhp and a torque of 330Nm mated to a six-speed manual transmission and the engine is tweaked with a 5th generation variable geometry turbocharger, which ensures instantaneous acceleration, taking the XUV500 from 0-60kmph in a mere 5.4 seconds. Monocoque construction is found in premium SUVs globally and is a first attempt by an Indian automaker debuting with the Mahindra XUV 500. The idea behind this type of design is that the SUV’s body and platform are integrated into a single unit improving the driving dynamics resulting in perfect power-to-weight ratio and improved handling.
The Mahindra XUV hosts an attracive front grille that again has design cues taken from the Cheetah; Cheetah’s jaw-like design to be precise. The Jaw -like design has been integrated to a honeycomb grille thats makes it more attractive.

Outside Rear View Mirrors (ORVM) :
The ORVMs have intergrated turn indicators and are electrically adjustable. The ORVMs fold automatially when the car is switched off and open when switched on.
Front centre arm rest:
The front centre arm rest has a cooler inside that can cool drinks and is helpful while on loang drives.
The Electronic Stability Program (ESP) is always on high alert and constantly monitors the movement and direction of the car. When it detects loss of control, brakes are automatically applied and torque to the relevant wheel is reduced till vehicle stability is restored. Rollover bars identifies potentially dangerous driving conditions that could lead to the vehicle rolling over. Well before the situation becomes threatening, it causes the ESP system to intervene and control the vehicle speed, thereby restoring stability.
Hill Descent control identifies steep inclines and engages itself to assist the vehicle down the slope with caution. While Hill Hold control prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards when starting from standstill on an incline.
The XUV is well equipped to keep you out of harm’s way. Six airbags reinforce the safety of the vehicle. Driver and passenger airbags, side airbags and curtain airbags cocoon you.
