India’s favorite hatchback is all set to get a major upgrade. Maruti plans to launch the new generation swift in late August or early September. The new swift has been codenamed YP8.
The car is expected to come in 1.2 litre petrol and 1.3 litre diesel variant. New model of swift is built on a slightly longer platform. Due to this we can expect the car to be more spacious. The car also has been made lighter and will return a 13% better mileage than current generation swift.
Swift which was launched 6 years go, has not had any major face lifts till date. the New Swift will be produced at Manesar facility in Haryana. Price is expected to go up roughly by Rs. 40,000.
The petrol edition of New Swift is expected to return a mileage of 20km a litre (under standard conditions) as against 17.9 km per litre. The diesel variant will return 23.8km per litre as compared to 21km a litre. They have been able to achieve this feat by replacing the metal tank with a plastic one. Generally plastic tanks are 25-35 percent lighter. They also come with range of benefits like being durable, non-explosive and corrosion free.
The New Swift may also be available in a automatic variant. Along current variants offering 5 speed transmission. Swift currently accounts for 25 per cent of the hatch back segment. And with the New Swift entering the market will probably go head on with Hyundai I20 that is more spacious than current Swift.
